This is the easier of the two sides. It never gets properly steep, and it is hairpin after hairpin almost the whole way, so the climb comes at you in short pieces instead of one long drag and you can wind the speed up out of every bend. The cars are all in the tunnel underneath, which leaves the old road more or less to bikes. The col opens out south towards Palma, and there is a café at the top.

The climb

The steepest part is in the first hundred metres. After that the gradient is even and low the whole way up, and you can sit in the same gear from bottom to top.

This is a good climb for the first day of the week, or for the day after a hard session. It asks nothing of you, and the road is largely yours — the cars are in the tunnel below.

The bends are the reason to ride this side. They come one after another the whole way, and you soon settle into a good rhythm: in towards the inside, through, and back out with the speed up.

The last hundred metres flatten out before you are up on the pass.
